ORIEDOWN PROJECT

OLYMPIC MUSEUM in ORIEDOWN:

Let’s find our way together through orienteering, protecting nature and taking a step towards an inclusive future!

ABOUT

The OrieDown project aims to enhance the quality of life and independence of individuals with Down Syndrome of all ages through orienteering sports while addressing key challenges such as reducing the risk of getting lost and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

PARTNER ROLE IN THE PROJECT

The Olympic Museum, as a partner of the Project, will provide individuals with Down Syndrome the opportunity to become more familiar with the Olympic Games and Olympic values. More specifically, children will develop an understanding of Olympic principles, fair play, sports culture, and history. This experience will enhance their interest in sports and help them demonstrate how physical activity can be used as a tool for social inclusion.

MAIN OUTPUTS

The project will develop four main outputs, reaching over 1900 people:

1. Adapted Orienteering Maps: User-friendly maps improving spatial awareness and mobility, ensuring safe and confident participation in orienteering.

2. Educational Orienteering Video Game, a fun and interactive tool reinforcing orienteering skills and environmental awareness, accessible to DS people, families, and educators.

3. Orienteering Pilots: Hands-on training and local tournaments where people with Down syndrome apply orienteering skills in realworld settings.

4. Good Practices Guide, a collection of 35 successful cases on inclusive sports for Down syndrome, serving as a resource for
policymakers, educators, and sports professionals.
