Football Exhibition

On August 2004 the Sports Museum inaugurated in its new building facilities the exhibition with the thematic “Greek and World Football”. Aim of the exhibition is to present the sport highlighting its historic development, in European and Greek level, and to present the organizational agencies, the structures and organizations that regulate the sport.

It is presented the historical and institutional development of football in Greece, and historic moments of the Greek National team with main report the triumph of the European Championship of 2004 through personal objects of veteran football athletes, and exhibits and trophies that were ceded by the football agencies and Football Clubs. It is also projected the organization of the World Cup (Mundial, F.I.F.A., World Cup) and also of U.E.F.A., with reference to the organizations of European Championships and Champions League. Especially, a reference is made to the Olympic Games’ football.

Of special interest is the personal collection of Pablo Ornaque that presents the aesthetic and historic development of football in an international level, and projects the development of ball and shoes, women’s football, children’s football, the development of the football uniform, of medals, the football table games, the children’s football games. At the same time, in collaboration with the Benaki Museum, it is presented a collection of football objects from the Greece.
